About Marten

So who is Marten really.....and how did he end up selling real estate as a career? Well it all started back in the Summer of '59, born of immigrant parents (father from Germany.mother from Saskatchewan) Marten grew up in Vancouver's tony West Side....in a basement suite, until his parents were eventually able to acquire their own home on W 22nd Ave.

Marten was not involved in that early sale because he was only 5 & didn't meet the licensing requirements, but he remembers that home and neighbourhoods fondly. As time went on, Marten's parents sought refuge in the suburbs, purchasing their first new home in 1968, in the wilds of Port Coquitlam, in the sprawling Mary Hill subdivision. Sadly, Marten was not involved in that sale either as he was only 9... but his time was drawing near!

Marten, his 2 younger brothers and their parents remained in that home for many years... surprisingly really because Marten's parents were avid "Looky Lous" spending what seemed like EVERY Sunday (as Marten recalls) wandering aimlessly through open houses......truth be known, Marten loved accompanying his parents in their newfound hobby (obsession)!

Marten doesn't recall if his parents ever found their "Dream Home" despite the endless open house visits and often wonders in retrospect, if it was the absence of "Granite Counters" and "Stainless Steel" appliances...

In 1977, Marten graduated from High School with the dream of eventually pursuing a career in Photography. He continued working as a waiter in various local restaurants honing his "working with the public" skills and the following year, he applied at the local College... only to find out that the photography courses were full... oh what to do? He knew that he didn't want to spend the rest of his life working in the restaurant industry and that he still enjoyed going to the occasional Open House... but now on his own. He considered working with the airlines... but his fear of flying quickly precluded that vocation.

Well as luck (or fate) would have it, in 1979, Marten's dad Lance who had already been selling Real Estate for about a year and a half ( and with great success) urged Marten to consider applying for his own Real Estate License. The fit seemed obvious, especially as Marten was used to working evenings and weekends and with the public at large. In the Spring of 1980, Marten acquired his license and has never looked back (well maybe occasionally). Fast forward to 2023 and you'll find Marten enjoying his 43rd year as a full time Realtor.

Now 43 years is a long time and you might think that by now, Marten would be bored silly, but he still enjoys the challenge, loves working with & for his clients and especially loves the thrill of trying to find that "elusive" property... even if he knows in his heart that it probably doesn't (and has never,EVER) existed... and this is why, he has always driven an economical car.

Marten's business today is almost all repeat and referral BUT, he still really enjoys taking on new clients, regardless of what it is they're looking for or where they want to buy or sell... (within reason)... He considers Greater Vancouver his area of expertise and presently lives on an (8 acre) hobby farm with his family in north Pitt Meadows.

Over the years,Marten has received numerous awards for excellence including Sutton Group's Directors,Presidents,Platinum & Diamond awards and has enjoyed being a member of the prestigious MLS Medallion Club which represents the Top 10% of all Greater Vancouver Realtors... but what's MOST important to Marten, is providing outstanding service to his clients and ensuring that their overall experience is an enjoyable, memorable one.

When he's not working diligently at serving his clients, Marten enjoys running, cycling, working in his yard, kayaking at the end of his street in the Alouette River and of course photography!

2021 saw the addition of Marten's daughter Emily.........who is starting off the 3rd generation of Realtors in the Felgnar household, she became a new mom in 2022 and is currently on "Mat" leave, hoping to resume her career alongside Marten, later in 2023!
